[K] General • Using smart controller with UE40K6300

Hi, bit of a newbie / non techie question.
I recently bought a UE40K6300 after reading a review saying that it came with a smart controller.
The TV arrived without a smart controller and Samsung are saying that it's not supplied with a smart controller in my region (UK)
I've bought a smart controller separately but it doesn't pair properly (will switch the TV on and off though)
Is there any way to activate the smart controller functionality using the service menu?
And, how do I get to the service menu to do this?
Any help much appreciated.
